Next Saturday, January 26, 2019, I will be participating in a Symposium on Gender Equality as part of the Annual Leader and Learner Event for the North Texas Area Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The workshop will be held from 1:45–3:00PM at Northway Christian Church in Dallas, Texas.

Despite significant social advances in the status of women in the USA and Europe, women in many cultures continue to suffer domination, exploitation, and abuse. Even in the USA, the majority of churches still uphold traditional patriarchal models for home and church. Even within churches that have formally endorsed gender equality, some have reported continued resistance to female leadership.

This symposium provides the opportunity to share experiences, views, and ideas to help promote genuine gender equality as part of the church’s essential theology and mission. Rev. Dr. Irie Session, Rev. Deborah Jones, and I will help introduce the issues at hand and facilitate discussion.

This workshop is part of a larger event lasting from 8:30AM–3:00PM and including lunch, but registrants can choose to attend just the afternoon session (at the same cost).
