Dr Jaime Clark-Soles was a gift to the 2024 Louisiana Annual Conference. Her sound scholarship, her collaborative spirit, and her deep faith were constantly at the forefront of her teaching. Guided by our theme, “Moving Forward with Hope,” she invited us reclaim the place and power of Scripture as a foundational norm of authority for our shared life and work, she led us on a journey through the Gospel of John, and she walked with us to the pool of Bethsaida in John 5, and there she helped us discover what it meant then, and what it means now to more faithfully respond to Jesus’s question and invitation, “Do you want to be made well?”. Her gift of bringing contemporary relevance to ancient texts both informed and inspired us all.
